Gordon Trucking donates 3500 pounds of food to Emergency
Food Network
The holiday season is filled with the joys of friends,
family and good food. While most of us cannot imagine
what this time of year would be like without one of
these joys, there are families in every community that
will go hungry during the holidays. To help make the
holidays special for those without food, Gordon Trucking
has teamed up with the Emergency Food Network to donate
food for hungry families.
This year Gordon Trucking and its employees donated
over 6 pallets of food items totaling more than 3500
lbs. Employees had a chance to bring in food items from
home, adding to the total donation. GTI then assembled
a wide range of goods that had been turned away from
their regular customers.
"The donations put together by Gordon Trucking
have always been top notch", commented John Paulk,
Chief Operations Officer of the Emergency Food Network.
"We are not sure why these items were originally
turned away, but they are going to help make the holidays
better for someone".
Food isn't the only donation taken by EFN. Other household
items such as paper towels, toilet paper and diapers
will be received. Mashed potatoes, flour, corn, green
beans, crackers, soda, cake mix, cereal, coffee and
soup were just some of the many items that made up the
3500 lbs. donated by GTI.
The Emergency Food Network, established in 1982, has
a long history with Gordon Trucking and the Transportation
Club of Tacoma. EFN is a non-profit organization and
early on did not have the resources to pick up large
quantities of food donations. Gordon Trucking stepped
in and donated the use of their trucks for pick up and
delivery of donated items from all over Pierce County.
"It is always easier to do nothing, but Gordon
Trucking and the Transportation Club of Tacoma always
step up to the challenge", said Paulk. "Their
generous contributions are what keep us alive".
The Emergency Food Network is a distribution center
that provides food to the many food banks in Pierce
County. Each year over 6 million pounds of food will
circulate through the distribution center feeding those
that are hungry.
