TRANSPORTATION CLUB OF TACOMA NAMES ROSS COOK "PERSON
OF THE YEAR"
TACOMA, WA - December, 9th 2002 - Ross Cook, Vice President
of Sales and Service for Gordon Trucking Incorporated
took an hour away from his busy day to attend what he
thought was a regular monthly meeting amongst transportation
colleagues in Tacoma. To his surprise he was honored
as the Transportation Club of Tacoma "Person of
the Year" for 2002.
The prestigious award, which has been handed out to
leaders in the transportation industry for over ten
years, signifies an individual that has shown exemplary
service to the transportation industry throughout the
Puget Sound.
"Ross has been a tireless supporter and volunteer
for the Transportation Club and is recognized as one
of the top transportation related executives in the
Northwest", said Jim Stanaway, Board Member and
2001 recipient of the award.
There are five criteria for selecting the "Person
of the Year" as communicated by selection committee
chair and board of director's member Anita Lydiard.
- Direct support of and participation in the Transportation
Club of Tacoma, to include its membership.
- Local recognition in the transportation community
for excellence, advancement and improvement within
the infrastructure.
- Community service performed directly and indirectly
in support of various local and regional activities.
- Overall contribution to the improvement and advancement
of the transportation and logistics networks as they
exist and grow within their specific disciplines.
- A mentor to other businesses and individuals.
The Transportation Club of Tacoma (web
site) was founded in 1926 and meets on a monthly
basis. Each month, club members are addressed by a guest
speaker pertinent to the transportation industry. The
club is an opportunity for transportation experts to
network and support their colleagues in the day to day
challenges of the industry.
"My colleagues in the TCT represent all walks
of our great industry, ranging from rail, ocean, truck,
and non-asset logistics providers", remarked Ross
Cook. "Being a part of this mix allows me as well
as Gordon Trucking to stay current with the many ever-changing
dimensions of transportation".
In addition to the awards handed out by the club, TCT
is active in raising funds for scholarships and charities
through events such as the annual golf tournament and
various donations. Every December TCT holds a raffle
and food drive for the Emergency Food Network. This
year Gordon Trucking contributed over six pallets of
food items as well as $200 cash.
